Bahrain RFC’s Executive Committee is elected for four year terms in line with Bahraini Government requirements. It consists of a Chairman and seven elected Executive Committee Members plus two appointed Executive Members, who are annually appointed from within the Club’s Rugby and Sports fraternities. Outside of this group, although traditionally an exofficio part of the Executive is the Honorary President who is appointed annually by the Executive Committee

Mehdi Honar

Chairman

A Former Chairman of Abu Dhabi, Mehdi came to Bahrain with a gulf wide reputation in rugby circles. He immediately made the place his own joining in wherever and whenever needed eventually leading to stints on the Executive Committee as Club Captain and Vice Chairman.

Mehdi has mad a considerable contribution off the field to the club’s infrastructure leading in the construction of the Club’s Sports Hall and extensions to the main clubhouse and bar areas. His next projects are slightly more unusual as he is currently trying to put together teams of Bahraini nationals to compete in both Rugby and Netball

Andrew Wilkie

Vice Chairman

Andrew’s main contributions to Bahrain RFC outside of his involvement on the Club’s Executive are through his willingness to get involved in the coaching and organisation of both junior, veterans and senior rugby. This led to a stint as the Club Captain prior to taking on the role of Vice Chairman interestingly as an addition rather than replacement role.

Andrew got in to coaching with an Under 11 group following it all the way through the ranks to see a couple of the lads make forays on to the senior team, his enthusiasm for the game is second to none

Hilary Rowark

General Secretary

Hilary came to us from Hong Kong with husband Jim who rapidly used his experience to guide the team for a number of years. Hilary interestingly did the same for our lady netballers and still coaches the juniors today.

Hilary’s role as General Secretary sees her involved in the coordination of the Executive Committee and Management team along with overall responsibility for communication with the membership by both. An often thankless task is always handled with a smile

Sam Gale

Honorary Treasurer

One of the younger members of the Executive Sam answered the call when it went out to request a sound financial head to guide the club through what is rapidly becoming a transition from ‘small club’ to ‘large business’ mentalities.

As a result much of Sam’s work happens behind the scenes but has resulted in a considerable contribution in our being able to put together a large fighting fund to construct new facilities. A keen Cricketer Sam turns out for the clubs Cricket Team whenever possible.

Bruce Aitken

General Member

Our South African Connection Bruce hails from the Insurance industry but has had a lifelong passion for rugby and all things Bokke.  A member of the club for a number of years Bruce is always available to help out and advise when required

At the forefront of the local South African Community Bruce can often be seen corralling  fellow Bokke supporters in front of one of the TV’s whilst making sure everyone is happy and well taken care of, a trait he carries through to all club members regulalry.

Sanne Smith

General Member

A Danish woman with a passion for golf and former employee of the club would seem to be a strange addition to the club’s executive, however throw in a welsh husband and talented son and you can see Sanne’s sporting connections straight away

Sanne currently oversees the rather daunting Membership Portfolio on behalf of the club making sure that each person has the requisite aivers and fees paid in place and that any necessary registration processes are completed. Throw in the administration side of our reception area and all the different tasks that encompasses and you’ll note how busy both she and her team are most of the time

Carol Moolman

General Member

Another of our South Africans Carol simply had to become a member when the talents of her children came to the fore (as if being South African wouldn’t have had her gravitating our way any how). Two sons on Rugby scholarships to South African Universities after having their ground work done at the club have been followed by a daughter who has represented the Kingdom of Bahrain Athletically

Carol will often be found helping out at our functions and/or events and is one of the Executive members responsible for liaising with the management team on them.

APPOINTED MEMBERS

Tom Ham

Appointed Member (Rugby)

Tom is a product of the club’s early experiments with recruiting players from the UK to try to improve the senior rugby team. As a result he has represented us for years working his way from the backline through to the forwards with a brief stint as team captain

The net result to all this is Tom is now happily married to Tozzie as a result of his stint here and whilst age and fitness may finally be catching up Tom is now making a huge contribution off of the field ensuring that Rugby’s interests are always are the forfront of the Executive’s thinking

HONORARY PRESIDENT

GaryA_Web

Gary Adriaan

Honorary President

Our Final South African but by no means least Gary has represented the Clubs Senior and Golden Oldies teams for years. A man with an affable personality Gary flits between virtually any and every position on the field and has been a Co-Vice-Captain of the Golden Oldies

Gary’s experience on the building and maintenance front has often been helpful although long stints in Qatar curtailed his enthusiasm when an Executive Member. A well deserved appointment to the role of President sees Gary acting as a figurehead alongside Mehdi more often than not
